Changing Worlds

The first item, Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kije Suite, started with the distant sound of a solo trumpet.  
Here the rest of the orchestra is about to play.

Our soloist for this concert was Catherine Harrison who played De beriot Violin concerto.  
She was the winner of  the  Hutt Valley Orchestra Cup
presented to the most talented player at the Hutt Valley Performing Arts Competition in 2023.

 

Catherine gave a very spirited performance of the concerto ...

           

... which was much enjoyed by the audience and orchestra.  

The second half of the concert began with Anthony Ritchie's evocative "Remember Parihaka".  This was followed by the moving "Prayer for the Ukraine" for predominantly strings with additional flute breath effects. The full orchestra then returned for an exciting performance of Tchaikovsky's "Capriccio Italien" .
