Christmas Cracker 2018
Hutt City Church, Marsden St. Sunday 3pm, 2 December 2018.
Conductor Mark Carter
This well-attended Christmas Cracker concert began with the energetic "Radetsky March"which set the scene for a great afternoon's entertainment.
Our venue for this concert was Hutt City Church.
The
festive
decorations added to the party atmosphere as we continued with a mix of
classics such as Prokofiev's "Troika" from Lieutenant Kije and the
Strauss "Tritsch Tratsch Polka", the popular highlights from "Harry
Potter" and "Star Wars" and a sing-a-long Christmas Carol.
A view across the string sections :

After the interval we were delighted to welcome seven children as soloists in the Toy Symphony. Here we see the nightingale, quail and triangle in action. |
More great performances by the children. Here you can see where the sound of that cuckoo was coming from. The other instruments played were drum, trumpet, and rattle. |
More Christmas carols followed, plus Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride". Here we see the the high point of its finale - the conductor turning and playing a whinny to signify the sleigh is back home.
The
concert concluded with a fun medley from "Pirates of the Caribbean".
