French Flair, 2017
Saint James Church, Woburn Rd, Lower Hutt
Saturday, 17 July
Conductor Mark Carter
This concert was a tribute to music from the France and Austria.
Here we see our new conductor Mark Carter and the orchestra playing the opening piece.

The Poet and Peasant Overture by Suppé with its contrasts of the expressive extended cello solo, string melodies and the energetic woodwind and brass parts banished the cold weather gloom of the previous days. The tone was immediately set for an evening of beautiful music.
The second item was the Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso of Camille Saint-Saëns. Malavika Gopal's dramatic performance of the virtuoso violin part lifted the whole orchestra. This was a treat for audience and orchestra alike.
