The Proms at St James
Hutt: Saturday November 19th at 7:30 pm
St James Church, Woburn Road, Lower Hutt
It's the usual Proms concert of a relatively restrained first half wot yer gentry expects in a concert. Then they can collapse the top hats, pop the tiaras in a reticule (not that I've ever seen one but they litter historical novels from Regency to early 20th C, so they probably have to be taken to concerts or they sulk which is the past tense of silk and no-one wants to go there.. um, where was I... oh yes...) Then the motley classes proceed to take greater and greater part in the concert, emboldened by the somewhat festival clothing of the orchestra, and probably egged on by the conductor and the soloist. It typically descends into a rabble cheerfully singing.

And speaking of
the soloist, that will be Pasquale
Orchard, last seen as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady last
April. She will be singing Quel guardo il cavaliere from Don
Pasquale by
Donizetti.
